La-Z-Boy Bennett Sofa Review: Specs, Price, and Who It Fits

Most reclining sofas make a trade. You get the comfort, but you also get the bulk. Thick arms, heavy backs, and a shape that announces itself from the doorway.
The Bennett is La-Z-Boy’s answer to that trade-off. It’s part of the duo® collection, which hides power reclining hardware inside furniture that reads as stationary seating.
What Makes the Bennett Different
The styling is the whole point here. Rolled cigar arms give the sofa a defined edge instead of a rounded slouch. Crisp welt detailing runs along the seams. Tapered wood legs lift the frame off the floor.
Put together, those details give the Bennett an architectural presence. In fact, most people don’t clock it as a reclining sofa until someone reclines it.
The recline itself is power-operated. Small buttons sit on the outside of each end seat. As a result, there’s no lever and no visible mechanism. Built-in USB ports on both sides also charge phones and tablets from your seat.

That reclined depth deserves a second look. The Bennett is a wall-hugger design, which means it slides forward as it opens rather than tipping back. As a result, you can place it just a few inches from the wall and still recline fully.
For a lot of living rooms, that’s the difference between a reclining sofa fitting and not fitting.
La-Z-Boy builds the Bennett on a tall scale, roughly 5’10” to 6’2″. Meanwhile, the 22.5″ seat depth runs generous. Shorter sitters may want a throw pillow behind the back.
Cushions, Pillows, and Power
The Bennett uses La-Z-Boy’s patented ComfortCore® cushions. The foam density shifts across each cushion — firmer at the edges, softer through the middle. That zoning is why the seats stay supportive instead of flattening after a year.
Two 20-inch accent pillows come included. Cushion and pillow upgrades are available in showrooms, though the standard build is what most people end up ordering.
Power models plug into a standard AC outlet. However, La-Z-Boy also offers a battery pack. That matters if your layout floats the sofa away from a wall.
Matching Pieces
The Bennett comes as a collection, not a one-off. For example, there’s a reclining loveseat at 60 inches wide, plus a matching reclining chair.
The loveseat shares the sofa’s depth, height, and wall-hugger mechanism. Because of that, a sofa-and-loveseat pairing lines up cleanly along two walls without a visual mismatch.
Who Should Buy It — and Who Shouldn’t
The Bennett makes sense if you want recline without the recliner look. It suits contemporary and transitional rooms, taller sitters, and anyone working with limited clearance behind the sofa.
That said, it isn’t universal. Petite sitters may find the seat too deep. If you want a softer, more casual sink-in feel, La-Z-Boy’s Trouper or Jay will suit you better. And if nobody in the house reclines, a stationary sofa gives you more seat for the money.
