American Drew, Hammary, and Kincaid: The Heritage Brands Behind La-Z-Boy’s Whole-Home Lineup

La-Z-Boy is best known for recliners. Over the decades, though, the company built a whole-home furniture portfolio through three heritage brands — American Drew, Hammary, and Kincaid. Each one brings its own specialty and decades of North Carolina craftsmanship to the table. Until recently, all three operated as La-Z-Boy subsidiaries. In early 2026, La-Z-Boy sold the American Drew and Kincaid wholesale businesses to sharpen its focus on upholstery. Hammary remains part of the La-Z-Boy family. The good news for consumers is that La-Z-Boy stores still carry all three brands as part of their whole-home offering.

American Drew

Founded in 1927, American Drew built its reputation on traditional and transitional bedroom, dining, and living room furniture. The price point has always been accessible without sacrificing quality. The brand’s most iconic collection is Cherry Grove, in continuous production since 1960. Cherry Grove blends Georgian, Edwardian, Sheraton, and Queen Anne influences. It is built with cathedral cherry veneers, rubberwood solids, and select hardwoods. For consumers who lean more contemporary, American Drew also offers its AD Modern line. The brand has long occupied a sweet spot in the market — well-crafted furniture with the look and feel of fine design at an approachable price.

Hammary

Hamilton Louden Bruce founded Hammary in 1943. The company name comes from a combination of his name (“Ham”) and his wife Mary. What started as a small lawn chair operation grew into something much bigger. Today, Hammary specializes in occasional tables, accent furniture, entertainment centers, and home office pieces. The Hidden Treasures collection is one of its most popular offerings — an eclectic assortment of globally inspired accent furniture. It appeals to consumers who want individual personality in a room rather than a coordinated suite. Hammary continues to operate as a La-Z-Boy division out of Hudson, North Carolina. Its service-first approach — maintaining large inventories for rapid shipment — has been a brand hallmark for over 80 years.

Kincaid

J. Wade Kincaid started the business in 1946 in North Carolina, initially producing solid wood cedar chests and wardrobes before expanding into bedroom and dining collections. What has always distinguished Kincaid is an unwavering commitment to solid wood construction — no veneer, no particle board. The brand relies on traditional joinery techniques like mortise and tenon, tongue and groove, and dovetailing, paired with hand-rubbed finishes. These are pieces built to become family heirlooms.

Kincaid’s upholstery operation is based in a plant in Taylorsville, North Carolina. The team there continues to produce sofas, loveseats, chairs, sectionals, and accent pieces. Every piece is bench-made with eight-way hand-tied construction. When the upholstery business transitioned to new ownership in early 2026, every existing employee was retained. The same team of craftspeople continues building furniture at the same facility. That kind of continuity says a lot about the people and the quality behind the brand.

Still Available at La-Z-Boy

The ownership changes behind the scenes do not change what consumers see on the showroom floor. American Drew, Hammary, and Kincaid collections are all still available through La-Z-Boy, and design professionals at every store can help you explore finishes, configurations, and custom options for each brand. Whether your style leans toward American Drew’s timeless traditional designs, Hammary’s one-of-a-kind accent pieces, or Kincaid’s heirloom-quality solid wood craftsmanship, each brand offers a distinct path to furnishing a home with quality and character.

La-Z-Boy also carries Canadel, an independent, family-owned manufacturer of customizable dining room furniture made from solid North American birch.
